巻頭言
近年、世界規模で異常気象が相次ぎ、季節の変化は「二季化」とさえ言われるほど急激になっています。また中東や東欧をはじめとする各地の戦火、さらには周辺国の緊張など、遠い場所の話だった出来事が、私たちの暮らしと地続きのものとして迫ってきています。コロナ禍以降、環境も社会も不安定さを抱えたまま、落ち着く間もなく移り変わり続けているように感じます。
その一方で、デジタル技術は加速度的に進化し、AIが生成する映像は現実と見分けがつかないほど精巧になりました。情報や流行は瞬く間に更新され、「時代」というまとまりで捉えることさえ難しいほど、次々と書き換えられていきます。そうした速さと揺らぎの中で、世界をどう受け取るかという私たちの感覚も、変わりつつあります。
このような状況下で、写真に求められるものとは何でしょうか。私たちは単にイメージを集めたいのではなく、いま起きている現実の感触や、個々の体験の中に生まれるわずかな気配を、丁寧に見つめていきたいと考えています。

写真は、記憶を保存する媒体であると同時に、時間とともに読み直される機能をもった、開かれたメディアだと思っています。本誌が、それらの思考に触れるひとつの場になれば幸いです。これからも、写真に何が求められているのかを、皆様とともに考えていきたいと思います。

In recent years, abnormal weather events have increased all over the world, to the point that typical seasonal patterns have begun to change or even disappear in several regions. Conflicts that once felt distant have drawn close to our everyday realities, from the ongoing wars and humanitarian crises in the Middle East and Eastern Europe to rising tensions in neighboring countries. Especially since the Covid-19 pandemic, our societies and environments seem caught in a state of constant instability, continuously shifting without a moment of pause. At the same time, digital technologies have advanced at a rapid pace, with images and videos generated by Al software now almost indistinguishable from reality. Trends and information are updated and overwritten so quickly and thoroughly that it feels impossible to grasp our current time under a single cohesive umbrella. Within the brittleness of our real and virtual surroundings, the very way in which we grasp and understand the world has also begun to change.
Given these circumstances, what do we ask of photography? Rather than simply hunting for new images, we want to explore the faint signs that surface from individual experiences and look closely at the texture of reality that unfolds around us. With the renewal of our magazine in the previous issue, we abandoned the constraints of a unifying theme and instead present works filled with energy and urgency that seem to gravitate together naturally rather than having been deliberately arranged. The pages of this issue therefor reflect the living breath of photographers immersed in our current world, determined to capture and reveal the raw vividness of the present. Photography is a medium that records and preserves memory, but it is also open to being reread and reinterpreted over the years. We hope this magazine will serve as an opportunity to engage with the ideas and challenges of our time, and we look forward to exploring the role of photography together with our readers.
